Soundgarden confirmed for Lollapalooza

Over the weekend Soundgarden announced on their website they are one of the headliners of the Lollapalooza festival. As a big fan of this band this is exciting news for me! I can only hope they will start announcing more dates soon and will be coming over to the Netherlands as well. Since Pearl Jam is also touring right now they probably won't play many dates before that time because of drummer Matt Cameron's obligation to both bands. Or they should go touring together which is close to my ultimate wet dream! Read more!

Happy 2010: Soundgarden Are Back?

The same text was showing on their internet site . Could this really be true and is a Soundgarden reunion at hand? Hopefully it is and Chris wasn't partying too hard at New Year's Eve. I can't wait to see and hear these guys again! Read more!

Them Crooked Vultures touch down

Rumours were buzzing on the internet for a while. A website showing only one page and directions to Twitter, Facebook and MySpace pages revealed little. But it was appearant that the superband Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) had spoken about in a 2005 interview was taking shape. The band name: "Them Crooked Vultures" and according to Grohl in the same interview "they wouldn't suck".
A little later the band announced their debut gig at the Metro in Chicago on August 10th. The band besides Grohl consisting of Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) opened their set at exactly midnight. No one knew what to expect since no songs had surfaced so far.
Grohl was handling the drums while Homme was on lead vocals and guitar. John Paul Jones as always played bass. Alain Johannes completed the band on guitar although it seems he's not an official member of the band. They played an energetic 80 minute set totalling 12 songs:
Elephants
New Fang
Scumbag Blues
Dead End Friends
Bandoliers
Mind Eraser
Gunman
Daffodils
Interlude w/ Ludes
Caligulove
Warsaw
Nobodys Loves Me
Read a full description of the gig over here.
Rumours are the band will play surprise gigs at two European festival Pukkelpop and Lowlands. I can't wait to hear some of their songs or see them live at Lowlands! What about you?

New songs from Muse and Pearl Jam are out while we await their new albums. I was really excited to hear they are both releasing new albums and couldn't wait to give these song a listen. Click to listen to them. What do you think of these songs? Let me know and leave a comment.
Muse - United States of Eurasia
Yes, it sounds a lot like Queen but just not as good and honestly I'm a bit disappointed. Maybe it just needs to grow on me more.
Pearl Jam - The Fixer
Quite a happy song. Not sure what to think of it yet. It sounds it a bit too poppy to me.

scribbles week 26 - Fireworks on Glastonbury

Well of course the biggest news was the death of Michael Jackson. But there were some nice things to enjoy as well fortunately. Glastonbury had a killer line-up with some epic moments. And there are some scribbles about Dirty Projectors and Beastie Boys.
What a great weekend they must have had at Glastonbury: Spinal Tap, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and of course the return of Blur:
And as festivals go sharing is caring so there were some guest appearances like Bruce Springsteen joining Gaslight Anthem:
Neil Young and Paul McCartney share stage
And not only in Glastonbury but also later in London Paul McCartney joined Neil Young in "For a Day in the Life":
Dirty Projectors in car accident
Their van flipped while on their way to Toronto. Fortunately they are all alright and no-one was seriously injured.
Beastie Boys name new album and release date
Beastie Boys have revealed the name for their new album: "Hot Sauce Committee Part 1". It will be released September 15.

Soundgarden reunion?

So this week there were rumours about an upcoming Soundgarden reunion. Although a bit vague: "I talked to this guy and he knows people and they..." could it be true?
Several sources reported this rumour where all previous members of Soundgarden including Chris Cornell supposingly were talking about a reunion next year. They were all referring to a Kerrang! magazine article that mentioned Shinedown singer Brent Smith talking about it.
However today Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd denied this in response to a text message according to a Daily Swarm post (picture taken from Daily Swarm):
They sure had me hoping for a while. I sure would like to see Soundgarden coming back together. Maybe where there's smoke there's a fire? I guess time will tell. Wouldn't you like to see this reunion? Let me know what you think and leave a comment.
